I met some really great people. I was able to learn a lot from this internship about the work force in general but also about Operations.

What I wish was different

There was very little insight to what the interns would be doing over the course of the internship and that led to a lack of productivity amongst the interns.

Advice

Don't be scared to ask for direction and guidance when you need it. Your colleagues want to help you.

What I liked

I liked the flexibility when choosing days off allowing for me to miss work for an assignment as long as I managed my days off correctly. This helped me focus on school and maintain a livelihood. Amazon also taught me how to multi-task and to push on even when I was tired and wanted to collapse. I persisted and was able to pay off my tuition including fees from a separate school to move down to Phoenix.

What I wish was different

I wish I did the shorter shifts because overnight ten hour shifts really took the wind out of my sails when I got off of work. I wish I didn't take on more on than I could handle. I would burn out fast after work. This did help me grow when it came to will power so maybe I'd keep things the same.

Advice

I advise that if a person were to take up the job to give yourself time to rest. I assumed I could survive on two hours of sleep and go to school which to my great surprise was not possible. I advise not to work too much labor in school to avoid this burn out. If you absolutely need to work then bring your own water bottle and work out shoes.

More input on picking my project, more intern-specific events.

Advice

Constantly be asking your mentor/manager for advice, but also know when to take liberties to solve problems by yourself. You are an intern and your main job is to learn, but also be aware that you are also an employee and will be treated as such.

The pay is not competitive. Truck yards can be dangerous and driving commercial trucks is one of the deadliest jobs in the US.

What I liked

I enjoyed the ability to network with top Amazon officials all over the world. It was interesting to get an inside perspective of Amazon operations and their efforts to combat the climate crisis. Finally, I enjoyed connecting with my co-workers daily from all over the world and learning about their cultural beliefs.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been in person and gave me the opportunity to learn hands on what happens inside the fulfillment center. However, I am grateful Amazon adjusted to the pandemic and moved the internship online when other companies simply canceled their programs.

Advice

I would advise students who are looking into interning with Amazon to be extremely detailed. Amazon is ever changing and throws curveballs daily. Students should be detailed and engaged every day in order to maximize their experience .
